Authority derives from recorded fidelity

Every variant's fidelity is recorded against the source at extraction — the baseline's own fidelity included, which closes the loophole where a lossy copy becomes exact merely by being promoted. A profile's authority is then the weakest fidelity across its selections, capped further when required operands are absent. Derived, never asserted: a profile cannot claim above its level, only voluntarily below it.
