A CANONICAL ANSWER · FROM THE VINDEX KNOWLEDGE GRAPH
An independent reader needs only documents
Open index.json — the sole root; its version field is the only detection, never filename sniffing. Read system_graph.json, stored verbatim. Every LYRW file describes itself completely: a reader needs nothing but the bytes in front of it, and unknown tags are preserved rather than fatal. The format is defined by its two public documents, not by any tool — and the deletion invariant makes that structural.
