Four cheap screens have been measured against ground truth, and all four failed. Weight error alone carries no semantic signal (ρ −0.313). Activation-weighted relative error is worse (−0.524) — the denominator rewards small outputs. Absolute local consequence almost works (+0.595) but confidently protects down_proj, the one tensor where protection measurably worsens the tail, because a local score cannot see where an error lands in the computation. Replaying errors downstream costs five times more than measuring the truth. Measurements can justify a map; VINDEX3 can express, compile and execute it; discovering it automatically remains open on the Record.
