Every canonical representation records the source payload hash computed while copying, and the encoded segment records its own — a chain of custody, not just a warehouse.
At verify time both ends are re-hashed and compared with what was recorded, so drift and corruption fail differently and by name. Variants carry fidelity graded against the source.
